Our range.
Books are our passion. Each of us working at Goldfinch has our own favourite genres, our go-to books, and our top ten recommendations. Come in and browse the shelves without pressure, sit and read for a while, enjoy a coffee, relax and take a breath, or chat with friends. We are here if you want a recommendation, or you just want to talk about books (or anything else for that matter).
We stock a comprehensive range of new fiction, non-fiction and children’s books. If it’s not on our shelves already, we can get most books in print on next day order, and we even run a free, personalised delivery service if you are local.
Fiction.
We stock the full range of fiction genres, so if it’s crime & thriller, literary, book-club, romance, or sci-fi and fantasy, come and have a browse.
Our books are arranged by genre to make it easy to find things in the genre you like. And if it’s not on the shelves, we can get most things for next day collect or delivery.
Are any of our genre sections a bit thin for your liking? Is our graphic novel range up to your standards? Let us know. We will refine, adjust and make sure we offer the best we can.
Non-fiction.
Our non-fiction covers the full range of popular titles from cooking and gardening to politics and philosophy. We have particularly strong sections in history, and the arts.
Like everything at Goldfinch, we will flex to the needs of Alton. If there’s a range we stock that you think should be more expansive, more diverse, or more of anything else, then let us know. We relish the challenge and the satisfaction that comes with a truly personalised service, putting you in the driving seat for what we stock.
Children’s and YA.
At Goldfinch we have a dedicated kids’ zone, with a broad range of picture and board books, then into the 5 to 8 range and middle grade up to 12. Come and enjoy the space we have created for kids to hang out, play, read, and interact.
As we get to the teens, our Young Adult range is specifically curated to be inclusive, and not afraid to cover those tough subjects that challenge us at this time in our lives. As a business with a passion for mental health advocacy, you will see this in our YA range.
Graphic novels.
We are excited about the rise of the graphic novel in recent years with Manga and Anime. Our range is growing as we tap into the excitement, and bring the latest, popular and the otherwise hard to find titles to our shelves.
Buy Second hand.
We stock a small number of curated second hand books. These are donated by lovely customers as a contribution to the Goldfinch crusade to become a community hub that is able to support a diverse range of interests (whether profitable or not).
Books are shelved in the cafe and bar area and are available for you to pick up and browse with your coffee and cake. If one takes your fancy then we sell at low prices, and will keep the stock coming in and rotating so there will always be something new (old-new) for you to flick through or buy.
